Designing for the Mobile Web03.22.08

mobile-web.jpgEventhough we love Flash Lite, mobile web is still the only solution to reach most people out there. Whatever application or service you create, there has to be a ‘Web side’ to make it a complete service. I just spotted a nice article on SitePoint giving cool tips on how to create mobile web sites. Check it out, you will need it some day.

BTW, stay tuned, Kuneri is coming with a cool solution for anyone to create mobile web sites the easiest way (as usual in Kuneri style ;) ).

Challenges of Interface Design for Mobile Devices10.05.07

Here is a great article from Yahoo User Interface blog: Challenges of Interface Design for Mobile Devices. Many good points mentioned and applies to most UI design cases.

The single most important concept to master when designing mobile device interfaces is “context”. The context in which an application is used and the context of how information is input are both key issues; each must be understood before a well crafted design may be implemented. When these two notions of context are explored, it becomes clear that designing for a mobile device can lead to a solution that is worlds different than its desktop equivalent.

Opera Mini 4 Beta is out!06.20.07

Opera launched new beta version of their mobile web browser Opera Mini and it’s free! It is very easy to download and install.

10 reasons to love Opera Mini 4 beta

1) Surf the Web in style

2) When you load a page, Opera Mini automatically suggests a place to begin reading. When it’s time to dive into the page, Opera Mini zooms in and cleanly focuses on the content you want.

3) Opera Mini dynamically changes the size of text and images to make it convenient to read without a lot of unnecessary scrolling.

4) A virtual mouse to makes it easy to scroll in any direction. The mouse cursor will look for content and links, and snap the view to them.

5) Scrolls faster using the keypad. Simply hit 2 to go up, 4 to go left, 6 to go right and 8 to go down. Opera Mini will snap the view to the content. Hit 5 to zoom in and out.

6) Opera Mini delivers the pages you want, quickly. In doing so, Opera Mini makes your data bill cheaper, too. Opera Mini loads pages more than 2x faster than other mobile browsers.

7) Option to change the structure of the Web page into a single vertical column, removing the need to scroll horizontally while browsing.

8) Quick access to key functionality with the context menu

9) CSS support you need to make your mobile web pages look pixel perfect.

10) And it’s just the beta.

Check FAQ for more details.

15 million times defended tower06.20.07

Desktop Tower defenseDesktop tower is defended 15 million times since it’s first release in March.

Desktop Tower Defense has been quite addictive for me too. It’s unavoidable. Also amazing that an almost non-budget game has attracted 15 million people in such short time. It also lead his creator Paul Preece to start up his own company and make it to Wall Street Journal Online pages.

Here is the link to Desktop Tower Defense. But I highly encourage you NOT to click it. No responsibility accepted for any time loss and addiction caused :)

A handy online tool: Stripe Generator04.16.07

Stripes are a new trend in design, as well as reflections. Many designers use these patterns in different phases of their designs, sometimes combining all together. We also use stripes in our designs often. Before, we used to create our stripes manually, however recently we found a nice online tool to generate stripes automatically, and it really became handy. Meet StripeGenerator; an AJAX diagonal (although it says diagonal, you can change orientation easily) stripes background designer, if you haven’t met already. Easy to use and get results.
