How to create a website launcher for Symbian phones07.03.09

How easy it’s to start browsing a web site on your mobile browser? Launch the browser, type the address (how many clicks?), go! Well, if you want people to visit your web site; you have to make it easier to access. Many people will be way too lazy to type your address (especially if it’s long), if you want traffic, you have to make it dead simple. Then the question is: How? Now there is a new and handy tool for anyone to create website launchers for popular Symbian phones with WRT (Web Runtime Widget) support online.

1. Go to Website Launcher Generator

2. Specify your launcher widget’s name

3. Specify the URL to be launched

4. If you have one, upload an icon for the widget

5. Optionally, change the widget’s version number, and its unique ID

6. Click “Generate!” and download your new widget

Kudos to Alessandro, now we can offer our visitors to access our web site with one click from application menu.

On top of my wish-list; I have J2ME support, where you can create a J2ME based launcher for your website, which would let us to reach much more phones.

mobilize your website

Kuvankaappauksien ottaminen Nokia 5800:lla01.17.09

Ko. ohjelman pääasiallinen käyttö on kuitenkin kuvan nauhoitus.

Kuneri selected to pitch at SpeedNet@DevFest10.07.08

We always believe in our ideas and products, as all companies (should) do. However your ‘great’ might not be that ‘great’ in reality or to others.

To challenge ourselves, we applied to pitch SWFPack – our online Flash Lite packaging tool – at SpeedNet@DevFest challenge which will take place in Symbian Smartphone Show 2008 in London. Couple days back I got the news that our product was found interesting and we were selected from a competitive group of entries and welcomed to pitch to an audience composed of Forum Nokia, Samsung, MOTODEV, UIQ, Navteq, Orange and key Symbian decision makers. I am personally excited to test myself and our product in front of such an audience and surely for the possible feedback and business opportunities that might create.

What is SpeedNet@DevFest?

SpeedNet@DevFest will provide companies or individuals with the opportunity to pitch their products and services.

Format

Each pitcher will be allocated 5 minutes to present using either product demos or Powerpoint. Audience members will move from table to table every 5 minutes and will receive contact information for each presenter at the beginning of the session.

Audience

SpeedNet@DevFest will be attended by representatives from Forum Nokia, Samsung, MOTODEV, UIQ, Navteq and Orange and key Symbian decision makers.

Mobile development goes web 2.0: SWFPack09.16.08

Today; I would like to make the introduction of a new innovation. I don’t use ‘innovation’ word to be cool or look corporate; I really mean it. I will try to make the value proposition in 3 short steps;

  1. Flash Lite developers have to pack their content for distribution
  2. Packaging is a hassle for developers on Windows, and impossible for Mac & Linux users
  3. SWFPack is a novel online service offering a cross platform, zero-install and easy to use Web 2.0 solution.

Yes, yet another innovation from Kuneri (like KuneriLite and KISS60). No installation, no prerequisites, no Windows jail, no SDKs, no set up struggles, no waiting, no payment.. Give your SWF file, SWFPack prepares your SIS file in a second. Can not be simpler; can not be faster; can not be easier.

SWFPack is scheduled to be released on 23rd October if everything goes fine. We just wanted to give a short introduction with a little sneak peek. Please check out current features and screenshots below, and we will be very happy to receive your feelings and even early feature requests ;)

Highlights

  • Cross Platform (Online; works on any modern browser)
  • No installation
  • Fast ( 1-2 seconds to compile )

Simple way to use your applications as a plugin with KuneriLite05.11.08

I just found a simple diagram I prepared for a common question: Can I develop my own plugins for KuneriLite?

Answer is “No” at the moment, but there is a simple way to use KuneriLite System plugin and communicate your application with your Flash Lite movie using KuneriLite. Check the diagram below.

Kuneri Success Case on Nokia04.02.08

We are once again proud to be mentioned as a “Success Story” by Forum Nokia and featured on Nokia Enablers and Infrastructure web page!

How cool would it be if developers and designers could create great-looking S60 applications without any special technical knowledge? Creating mobile applications for S60 devices generally requires knowledge of Symbian OS, the platform’s underlying operating system, and the C++ programming language. However, simplicity is the promise of Kuneri Ltd.’s KuneriLite, a rapid application development toolkit that lets users create S60 applications on a PC using only Flash Lite from Adobe. “There is no need to know anything about Symbian OS, since the developer never touches any Symbian code,” says Ugur Kaner, CEO and co-founder of Kuneri Ltd.

You can also get the PDF of the interview or access from Nokia page.

Symbian themes in style01.31.08

1.jpgI don’t usually post about mobile phone themes; I know there are thousands of those and most of them are not any more special than the other. But I recently got a nice introduction from Ishtiaq and I liked his work and enthusiasm. He is a real musicaholic and creates those good looking Symbian (Nokia) themes in his free time and publishes on NokiaSymbianThemes.com for free: Nice hobby ;) And (almost) none of them has this annoying links on background image. Except being huge in file size (1 MB+) and using bitmap images, I am positive about those themes.

I liked Fury, Baby Blue and Revolvers. Check out his site, am sure there are some you will enjoy also.

S60 Programming Competition01.17.08

problem_of_the_month_banner.jpg

Forum Nokia has launched a new competition for S60 developers. There will be a new programming challenge on a monthly basis and best solutions will be awarded:

Problem for January

S60 supports multiple different runtimes and programming languages. The aim of this month’s competition is to come up with a way to combine different runtimes.

We are asking you to design and implement a framework that unifies S60 runtimes. The goal is intercommunication of runtimes (for example Symbian C++, Java, Flash, Python, Web Runtimes, you name it). With this kind of runtime interaction it is possible to access new features and re-use existing solutions in a manner that is unheard of. Provide us with your framework implementation and also at least one working example of runtimes interworking. If you don’t have time to implement all the necessary parts – let us know your ideas and planned design to score more points in the contest.

The January’s competition is open until 15th of February (15.2.2008) and we hope to have the best solutions published by the end of February.

..

Some shameless promotion of our products here:

About frameworks, KuneriLite framework which unifies pure Symbian C++ and Flash Lite, is based on HTTP protocol, giving unlimited access from Flash Lite to S60 features with simple API.
Developer is able to create real S60 application, using powers of Flash Lite in UI development and utilize smartphone features, without thinking of implementatation for platform, in this case for Symbian OS.

When developing on top of KuneriLite framework, it is possible to create hybrid application mixing Flash Lite, Symbian C++ and even Open C runtime modules!

Porting existing C-implementation to S60 environment is dramatically faster, than creating complete Symbian version..

HTTP protocol allows to spread the development to different areas, like using J2ME for development, but there the functionality is limited and access to S60 features is pretty constrained.

We are publishing new release soon with new features!
