How to create and download customised Wallpapers for iPhone03.28.09

The Apple iPhone Blog has a nice post about creating and downloading kick-ass wallpapers for iPhone without needing to draw anything or present any artistic effort for free.

There are a lot of wallpaper sites around for iPhone, but none actually give you a fun and easy way to create one for yourself. DoiPhone blog just came across Pikkoo: A community for mobile screensavers and wallpapers 2.o; and we are stunned- they let you find and create kick-ass wallpapers without needing to draw anything or present any artistic effort, for free!

Android G2 UI FAIL (not to look like iPhone?)02.18.09

When working on Sudoku Master Example for Nokia, I designed a simple touch keypad for number entry to Sudoku cells. In the design, touch keypad highlighted the number ‘over’ the touch point with a zoom effect. Many thought I got ‘inspired’ from iPhone, and questioned the design. However, the reason was simple (so I thought):

The reason for the decision to zoom above the finger is simply because it is the only way to make the number visible for both right- and left-handed people.

Today, I was watching Android G2 video review; and saw that a guy was typing on a virtual keypad and complains (00:45) there is no key highlight at all (which is weird). When I watched little carefully, I could see the highlights popping up on the ‘left’ side of keys. This was a perfect real life example that the key highlights should be on top of a key, not on left, right or bottom. And that’s not because Apple iPhone does it so; but that’s the only right way to avoid such a big FAIL when a left handed guy shoots one of the first reviews of your product :)

PS. Phone definitely looks cool

How to connect Internet using a Nokia on Macbook06.19.08

I used to use my lovely Nokia N76 (or N95) to connect to Internet with my unlimited GPRS (3G) data plan, whenever I had to sit on my ass for many hours in a train. I said I “used to”, because I neither use PC nor a Nokia (sorry guys, Apple stole my heart). Today, I gotta sit in a train for 5 hours, therefore had to figure out a way to connect to Internet with my Macbook and iPhone. But the thing is: I don’t have a 3G iPhone (yet), therefore I had to figure out how I could connect to Internet with my Nokia N95 on my Macbook (Leopard), which would be faster.

So this is how;

1. Go to ‘System Preferences’ on your dock

2. Select ‘Network”

3. Plug in your Nokia to your Macbook via USB cable (faster)

4. Select ‘PC Suite’ on the phone

5. You should now see your Nokia connected on left pane. Click on it.

6. Check ‘Show modem status in menu bar’ option and click on Advanced

7. Choose ‘Nokia’ as vendor and enter your APN (you can find it on N95 under Tools->Settings->Connection->Access Points->(Carrier name)->Access Point Name) and hit OK.

8. Click ‘Apply’ (this is important, otherwise nothing will happen)

9. Click ‘Connect’

That’s all. If it doesn’t connect you might need to enter a phone number, user name or password depending on your operator. Please contact to your operator or see operators web site for details.

Hope helps.

Ugur.-

iBattery screensaver05.09.08

iBatteryDesign province labs, creator of LiveU screensaver (which also is enabled on KISS60), released a new Flash Lite screensaver called iBattery.

It’s quite elegant, simple, and iPhone-like. You can see the battery level and time as well.

Great work!

Half a million iPhones in 72 hours07.02.07

Apple’s is a true marketing genius. 500.000 iPhones sold in 72 hours! According to analyst, Blackfriars, which has been monitoring stores, claimed that sales should top 500,000 for the first weekend.

The bottom line: some analysts claimed that the iPhone launch would be a failure if Apple failed to sell 100,000 iPhones during the first weekend. Based upon the limited data we have, we believe that number was exceeded in just the first two to three hours. Blackfriars’ prediction is that Apple will sell 500,000 iPhones this weekend, and based upon limited sales rates reported, that number now looks quite achievable. The only question is whether the demand and iPhone supply is great enough that they might push past the million unit mark this weekend.
