Nokia Releases Qt 4.612.01.09

qt_logo

Nokia today released Qt 4.6, the latest version of the cross-platform application and UI framework. Featuring new platform support, powerful new graphical capabilities and support for multi-touch and gestures, Qt 4.6 makes developing advanced applications and devices easier and more enjoyable.

Highlights

  • More eye candy

New animation framework – new advanced graphics effects like opacity, drop shadows, glow, and filtering are supported.

  • More fingers

Ability to create multi-touch applications with new multi-touch and gestures, such as flicking and kinetic scrolling.

  • More horsepower

More performance to deliver the “wow” effects.

  • Updated tools

Qt Creator tool coming with SDK has been updated.

Cool!

Qt for Symbian is no more technology preview stage, according to videos the performance seems to vary between adequate to excellent.

Qt appears now to be much more tempting for mobile developers demanding better UX. For Nokia devices, with Qt technology you can create applications besides for S60, also for Maemo in future, perhaps for S40 as well.

KuneriLite is application of the week on Forum Nokia02.04.09

KuneriLite is the application of the week on Forum Nokia in Enterprise category. A good motivation boost for us :)

KuneriLite, from privately held mobile innovation company Kuneri Ltd., is a rapid application development add-on toolkit for the S60 3rd Edition SDK that makes it easy to develop applications using Flash Lite from Adobe. The toolkit allows developers to create applications without any prior knowledge of either C++ or the Symbian OS. This application is a part of Forum Nokia’s 2008 Innovation Series.

We have been working with Forum Nokia to create new resources for Flash Lite developers and designers, and Kuneri’s latest work is just got published on their portal. These are the very first resources addressing touch and key based issues with Flash Lite, therefore please let us know your comments and feedback here. If you like them, do not forget to rate them in the end of each document ;)

Flash Lite UI Design Guide for Keypad and Touch Devices

This document approaches the problem of making a single application available for both touch and keypad devices from both the developer and designer perspectives, briefly collecting knowledge related to Flash Lite UI design. This document addresses Nokia devices supporting Flash Lite instead of a specific platform, and the focus is on maintaining great user experience across all devices.

Sudokumaster – Designing a Flash Lite Game for Keypad and Touch Devices

This document discusses creating a basic Sudoku game to demonstrate the design and implementation of a Flash Lite application with dynamic layout control for multiple screen resolutions and input methods (key, touch, and key & touch).

Flash Lite Sudokumaster Example

This example application demonstrates how to design a simple Flash Lite Sudoku game, add dynamic layout control for multiple screen resolutions, and use several input methods (key, touch, and key & touch).

Kuneri is selected for Forum Nokia Innovation Series Program11.24.08

Another great news from Kuneri. We are very proud to be globally recognized (once again) and take our place among 8 other most innovative companies in the world selected by Nokia with KuneriLite. See the complete press release by Nokia.

Nokia today announced the selection of nine additional mobile application developers from Asia, Europe and the Americas to expand its 2008 Forum Nokia Innovation Series program.  The program provides select small- and mid-sized developers with business and market support while showcasing their next generation mobile applications and services for consumer and business audiences worldwide.

The nine exceptional companies recognized today join an initial group of six North American and two European developers chosen in the third quarter of 2008 to participate in the Innovation Series Program. The latest program participants address a broad spectrum of applications, including mobile voice reminders, data protection and device security solutions, point-to-point travel navigation, Adobe® Flash® Lite(TM) mobile content for sales and marketing, and reward-based advertising over mobile devices.
Developers chosen to participate in the 2008 Forum Nokia Innovation Series program cleared multiple selection hurdles over the course of the past year as part of the Innovation Series selection process, which included internal Nokia reviews and the screening of application features and functionality by consumer focus groups around the world. Each participant in the 2008 Forum Nokia Innovation Series was required to demonstrate that their application or service provided specific benefits to Nokia mobile device users not otherwise available, and that a clear market demand existed for such a solution.

Forum Nokia launched a new global challenge calling all innovators in the world to compete for the best mobile solution and $150.000 total cash and prize.

We are calling for phone applications that solve real problems that face real people. Please submit an application that solves a problem in one of the following areas.

Technology Showcase – “Developer Showdown”: This category offers the opportunity to show off your technical kung fu and introduce the world to your true killer app! Open to all technologies, if it runs on S60 or Series 40, then we want to see it! Regardless if it has just been created or you have been selling it for a while, casual or commercial, we want to showcase the best of the best. Be it on Flash Lite, Java, Python, or open source. If it’s a game, enterprise solution, Web-based widget, or just a cool application that will enhance the mobile user experience, then this is the category to enter.

Eco-Challenge – “Make a Difference”: Here is your chance to join an important world-wide movement! Assist Nokia in creating mobile devices, software and services that reduce our impact on the environment.  Make a difference by submitting the application that will minimize mobility’s global environmental impact and help people make sustainable choices.  Developers who submit for this category will be building tools to help people take care of the environment – from charger reminders to mobile learning applications, from navigation info to recycling tips.

Emerging Markets – “IMAGINE the Possibilities”: Get involved in defining and creating services for the Next Billion mobile users. The mission of the Emerging Markets Challenge is to open up new opportunities for developers to pioneer & monetize services impacting the daily lives of millions in developing nations.  Examples of Emerging Market solutions include applications providing health information and data access, apps offering low-cost infotainment, SMS-driven apps that inform rural agricultural workers of the best time and place to bring products to market, as well as literacy and general education solutions.

WRT: Flickret from Mark Caunter of the U.K. A mashup that combines the Flickr photo-sharing application with MapQuest APIs to let users look for and get directions to places of interest.

Europe/Middle East/Africa
