Flash Lite 2 - The best wireless/mobile development tool or add-in01.16.07

JupiterWeb, a division of Jupitermedia Corporation, today announced the winners of Developer.com product of the year 2007 contest. Flash Lite 2 is the winner of wireless/mobile development tool or add-in! Congratulations!

Each year Developer.com has its Product of the Year contest. We ask readers to nominate then vote on the technologies, tools, and programs that they think are the best in their field. Last year we said that the contest’s results were the most clear-cut we had ever seen. This year’s results were even more clear-cut than ever. In the main category of Technology, the winner dominated the category with 61% of the votes. Tools such as Apache Ant, which won Development Utility of the year, and Adobe Flash Lite 2, which won Wireless/Mobile development tool of the year, both won by some of the widest margins we’ve ever seen.

Surprisingly we had a shift in brand alliance, four repeat winners, and a winner in the Wireless/Mobile Development Tool or Add-in category that we never expected.

Winners of other categories are:

* Technology of the Year - Mozilla’s - AJAX
* Framework of the Year - Ruby on Rails
* Development Tool of the Year - IBM(R) WebSphere(R) Studio
* Development Utility of the Year - Apache Ant
* Web Service Product of the Year - Google(TM) Maps APIs
* Wireless/Mobile Development Tool or Add-in of the Year - Adobe(R) Flash(R) Lite(TM) 2
* Database Tool or Add-in of the Year - Microsoft(R) SQL Server(TM) 2005
* Java Tool/ Add-in of the Year - IBM WebSphere Application Server
* JSR (Java Specification Request) of the Year - JSR 244: Java(TM) Platform Enterprise Ed.5 (Java EE 5.0)
* .NET Tool/Add-in of the Year - Microsoft AJAX Library, ASP.NET AJAX Control Extensions and ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit (collectively “Atlas”)
* Open Source Tool of the Year - IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition

Monetizing mobile games12.19.06

It’s tough for a (mobile) game developer, both to develop and sell a game. Development and business are two different aspects and both might get way too complicated. You might be a thrilling developer and make an amazing game, but how good it is if you can not sell as it deserves, or not at all?

Lauro started a topic on Forum Nokia about how to make money with mobile games. Many people telling their ideas and experiences on the subject. If you have some words to say, please contribute.

I would also recommend that you read gameProducer, where you can get to know many practical information about game business.

Also we learnt that, refreshmobile has a mobile game contest for their mobizines with £2000 prize.

What happened to TYPE THIS?10.09.06

As you may remember, couple of weeks ago, we posted a news about FITC TYPE THIS contest. We prepared a simple Flash game for PSP, however, due deadline was close and we did not see the game at the level we want, we did not submit.

I follow their page to check the results for some time. I am curious, trying to figure out current interest about Flash on PSP, and wondering what kind of games and good ideas had been submitted. It’s told that submissions would end at 21st September and winners to be announced on 30th of September 2006. Although it’s past 30th, there is still no update or announcement about the winners, at least on their web page. I personally sent an email asking about the results, however, no response since then.

So, what is the situation? Is there an announcement, but no web page update, or was the interest that low that there are nothing to announce? Anyone joined or heard anything about that?

NSeries developers competition10.03.06

A new development competition from Nokia, with a prize of their brand new multimedia computer N95. There are 3 main categories: Travel, entertainment and productivity. Submissions can be developed by C++, J2ME and yes: Flash Lite, for Symbian OS 9.1. There has to be at least a working prototype until 30th October 2006. You give almost full license to Nokia for the submissions and Nokia gives you a brand new N95 and own profile section on NSeries.com, including link to your website. Nokia also promises to provide assistance with development and testing for selected applications.

Follow the link and click on “Developers Competition” from the menu below.

Note : Later noticed that, if it’s your first time, it comes up with region selection. So a possible path to information can be : Select Europe region -> Developers competition from the menu below (or win N95) -> “The Lab” -> First of three -> Competition guidelines. Sorry, but this is the only way I could find. Great interface, but hard to give links. Let me know if there is a better link.
