No Plan, No Capital, No Model.. No Problem06.27.07

I watched No Plan, No Capital, No Model… No Problem video on Guy Kawasaki’s blog recently. It is almost 2 hours of talk about start ups that neither has a business plan nor a business model with a capital between $0 to $100K and succeeded that well you cold not expect. Especially the story of PlentyOfFish touched me very bad :) I highly recommend you to watch this video and listen what these guys say; it’s very motivating and pushes your buttons of motivation and courage.

I’ve moderated many panels in my time, and if I had to choose one that entrepeneurs should watch, this is it. If you’re one guy/gal or two guys/gals in a garage, it will push all the right buttons, and you’ll love it. However, if your plan is to raise several million dollars from venture capitalists and then hire five engineers, one vp of biz dev, one CTO, two testers, and a vp of marketing to ship a product in a year, you probably shouldn’t spend your time watching it.

Nokia reorganizes06.21.07

Nokia Logo SmallNokia announced that they are re-organizing their company organization; Devices, Services & Software and Markets. This seems much logical than the previous one. I think they need such changes and improvements to reduce the internal problems. Read the press release.

Nokia today announced that it will introduce a new company structure from January 1, 2008. The move, driven by Nokia’s strategy, is aimed at creating an organization aligned with the opportunities Nokia sees for future growth, and to increase efficient ways of working across the company.

Under the new organization, Nokia’s current business group and horizontal group structure in the device business will be replaced by three main units: Devices, responsible for creating the best device portfolio for the marketplace; Services & Software, reflecting Nokia’s strategic emphasis on growing its offering of consumer internet services and enterprise solutions and software; and Markets, responsible for management of Nokia’s supply chains, sales channels and marketing activities.

On2 acquires Hantro05.25.07

A recent acquisition; On2 acquires Hantro. Ok, you are wondering why I post this as a news; 2 good reasons:

1) Hantro is a Finnish company based in Oulu. ( See where is Kuneri located )

2) On2 is a company that powers VP6 codec that is leveraged in Flash video. Hantro specializes in video for mobile. Which looks like On2 is on something about Flash Lite video.

See the press release and post for more detailed information about the acquisition.

Flash Lite ecosystem with China Mobile04.02.07

Here is a good news:

Few weeks ago, Adobe announced with ASPire and China mobile that, China Mobile is now offering Flash Lite content download service for their subscribers. Subscribers with supported handsets can access and download Flash Lite content from five different categories via their Monternet service which is available through their phone’s web browser. With 350 million subscribers for China Mobile there’s a lot of opportunity for Flash Lite developers to sell their content to subscribers and we’re really excited about the opportunity in China for growing a Flash Lite ecosystem.

You can go to the 1:39:34 time mark in the recorded Adobe financial analyst presentation from 28 March to hear more about China Mobile and their Flash Lite download service.

Check out Bill’s blog post if you have any questions related to this issue.

Monetizing mobile games12.19.06

It’s tough for a (mobile) game developer, both to develop and sell a game. Development and business are two different aspects and both might get way too complicated. You might be a thrilling developer and make an amazing game, but how good it is if you can not sell as it deserves, or not at all?

Lauro started a topic on Forum Nokia about how to make money with mobile games. Many people telling their ideas and experiences on the subject. If you have some words to say, please contribute.

I would also recommend that you read gameProducer, where you can get to know many practical information about game business.

Also we learnt that, refreshmobile has a mobile game contest for their mobizines with £2000 prize.
