Creating thrilling S60 applications made easy with KuneriLite Rapid Application Development toolkit for Adobe® Flash® Lite™

Oulu, Finland – Kuneri, innovative mobile design and development company based in Finland, today unveiled public beta release of their anticipated product KuneriLite™. KuneriLite™ is the very first global product, offering developers to create S60 mobile applications faster, easier and cheaper, without any Symbian programming knowledge.

“We have been developing for S60 platform for a long time and see the potential of Flash Lite very clearly” says Ugur Kaner, CEO of the Finnish company. “We see a gap between strength and user experience in mobile development, and aim to help developers to close this gap by using our tool. We believe KuneriLite will be very popular among developers, as it is very easy to use and learn, and leads to impressing results; bringing imagination into concrete in shorter time. We believe that, because we are mobile developers ourselves and understand developers’ needs very well as insiders. We also had a long alpha testing period and feedback we received supports our belief.”

KuneriLite™ extends Adobe® Flash® Lite™ capabilities on S60 platform and is supported on all S60 3rd edition and newer devices, covering increasing number of smartphones worldwide. There is a rich set of plug-ins available and also allows developers to develop their own plug-ins. KuneriLite™ comes with a very easy to use Wizard interface and guides developers to produce ready-to-install packages step by step. KuneriLite™ is completely invisible to end users and works out-of-the-box, not requiring any additional installations.

“We are proud to be a pioneer in global mobile development business.” says Kimmo Seppänen, Chief Marketing Officer of Kuneri. “We know that mobile content market is very tough. But we believe reduced development costs and time will help small enterprises to arise and provide a richer product set to end users. This definitely makes a difference.”

KuneriLite™ comes with 3 editions: Basic, Professional and Commercial. Basic edition is free to download and try. Professional edition meant for freeware productions, and also offered free of charge for non-commercial purposes. Commercial edition is offered for commercial projects and has a very developer friendly license and price. Further information about KuneriLite™ is available on KuneriLite™ web site; www.kunerilite.net.

New “Express” Symbian Signing -process09.11.07

I got a hint of a discussion in Symbian developers forum of improvements in Symbian application signing process.

They say that signing will cost aroung $20 per application with new Express Signing (Publisher ID from TC Trustcenter is required).

That is something. With much cheaper and faster process, I see this will encourage more developers to sign their applications and more frequently.

New S60 phones from Samsung08.15.07

Samsung is coming with three new devices, in near future. There has been rumours in last weeks of Samsung i450, i550 and i570 and all claimed S60 devices based on Symbian 9.x OS. At least i450 seems having FL 2.0 player preinstalled!

Mobile device stats from flickr photos07.18.07

Scott Janousek analyses mobile camera usage statistics of Flickr Service.

Thank you Scott, for posting this!

flickr_nokiastats1.png

In the graph, the fact is shown how much people are still using Nokia N70, a S60 2nd edition phone. From Flash Lite business perspective it is not positive, since it does not came with Flash Lite player.

Thinking our KuneriLite Camera, which supports the five most used devices in the list, except N70( because we aim for 3rd edition) stats look rather good.

S60 FAQ and Flash Lite06.18.07

I checked S60 FAQ today, and figured out an interesting chapter.

Is Flash Lite from Adobe going to be available on all S60 devices from S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 onward?

No. Flash Lite from Adobe is an optional component of the S60 platform from S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 onward, and it may not be implemented on all devices. However, end users can install Flash Lite on S60 3rd Edition devices that ship without it.

A Flash Lite Framework API, which allows developers to interact with the Flash Lite 2.0 player and later versions, is present as part of the S60 platform. However, it works only on a device that has the optional Flash Lite 2.0 player or later, either as an original component or installed by the user.

From that, we learn that not all S60 3rd Edition FP1 devices will have Flash Lite for sure. It’s mentioned that end users will be able to install on devices that ship without it. Does that refer to free Flash Lite 2.1 player or is there other ways? An open issue for me. Also, anyone understanding the second paragraph, come forward :)

Tip of the day : How to change default screen size of S60 emulator06.18.07

Very simple tip for the ones who would like to change default screen size for S60 emulator from double resolution to another.

- Locate epoc.ini (C:\Symbian\9.x\S60_3rd\Epoc32\Data\ by default)

- Comment out all other resolutions other than you want

- Locate wsini.ini (C:\Symbian\9.x\S60_3rd\Epoc32\Data\ by default)

- Comment out all other resolutions other than you want

That’s the dirtiest way. Let me know if you know smarter ways or see any mistake.

Bonus : You can modify emulator’s platform security options also from epoc.ini. Change PlatSecEnforcement to OFF.
